After a week spent touring cultural sites in Qatar and meeting local students, American teachers and students wrapped up their visit to Qatar last week. The students, who learned about Islam at the Al-Fanar Center during the trip, hail from Washington, D.C. where they attend Washington Latin Public Charter School (WLPCS). Their visit culminates a year of learning Arabic as part of the Arabic Language and Cultural Program, developed and sponsored by Qatar Foundation International (QFI). The trip is an essential component of the program, providing them with tangible experiences to accompany what they have learned over the past year.
During the visit, the students spent time with counterparts from their sister schools: the Doha Independent Secondary School for Boys (DISS) and the Al Bayan Educational Complex for Girls. As part of a cultural exchange, QFI’s program encourages Qatari and American students and teachers to learn from one another and appreciate that they are part of One World. By building personal and enduring relationships, the students will also be inspired to continue their language learning and to develop connections to the respective regions.
“Before coming to Qatar, I thought I wouldn’t stay in the Arabic class after this year. It was too hard. But now that I have made these friends, I really want to learn it well,” said Alistair Andrulis, a student from WLPCS

The Bund, Shanghai
The Bund is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Shanghai. If you have never been to the Bund, than you have never been to Shanghai. The Bund is within the former Shanghai International Settlement, which runs along the western bank of the Huangpu River, facing Pudong, in the eastern part of Huangpu District. The Bund usually refers to the buildings and wharves on this section of the road, as well as some adjacent areas. Building heights are restricted in this area.
